I bought a boat and the previous owner included a Garmin 76Cx and BlueChart version 5. Included was a copied CD with an older Mapsource version. I ran the setup.exe and it installed Mapsource along with the marine BlueCharts.

I can see all the appropriate detail on the charts but when I connect the 76Cx to the laptops USB, the only option is to connect through Com1-4. USB shows no device available. I have a feeling I am missing Trip and Waypoint Manager. How do I get a copy of Trip and Waypoint Manager so I can communicate to the Garmin 76Cx? Is there another way to connect the Garmin so I can plot waypoints and track my route while boating?Thanks. OK, I dug out my old 60csx and I see the same options.

Guess I was thinking about the newer devices. However, since it says it is connected I think that your computer and Mapsource should see it.There should also be a button at the bottom that says USB Mass Storage. Click that and see what happens. Does the device appear as a disk in Windows? If so, that should allow you to install maps on the memory card but will not access tracks and waypoints since you need 'talk' directly to the GPS for that. If the GPS doesn't appear like a disk, then there is definitely a communication problem with your computer.Either way, you may need to install the proper drivers.

I try and unlock the BlueChart and the Garmin website install procedure asks for serial number and Product Key/Coupon code. I enter serial number off the 76Cx and 8 digit code off the back of the BlueChart Americas Version 5 but Garmin website says invalid Product Key/Coupon. So I removed the new version of Mapsource and reinstall the old Mapsource. That way I at least have the detail maps but can't communicate to the 76Cx. I also use Garmin MapInstall. Really, the solution is to contact Garmin Support since you have the orignal disks. They should be able to sort this out for you. People report the best results when calling instead of e-mailing although you may have to wait awhile on hold. But if you are at your computer with the gps, they will talk you through whatever is necessary and can even remotely control your computer if needed.AFAIK, Basecamp is not compatible with Garmin's marine maps.

They want you to purchase another program called HomePort for that.
